I wanted to write about the adventure we had in Mindanao last August! But last month, my schedule was a bit hectic. It was hella fun! Being with my friends after a long time. It’s a little exaggerating but yes, 2 months is definitely long for us. I hope to share the beauty of Mindanao soon.

2008. How can I ever forget that year? February 18, 2008 to be specific. Why? Because it was the day when I experienced my first heartbreak. I can’t believe it’s almost four years already since that day. One day and it changed my life forever.

It was one in the morning of Feb. 18 when we received the news that we lost him, I lost my brother. I still can remember how I reacted. No tears fell from my eyes. My heart was full of anger and my mind was preoccupied with questions. Why? Why him? How? I had no one to blame but myself. I was there when the accident happened. I was mad at myself.

Gian, my youngest brother, came to our lives when I was in grade six. He was our angel. He brought laughter to our family. He was my stress reliever. He was the one who told me I’m beautiful when I was in my lowest. Gian and Gelo (my younger brother) were my inspiration. I planned my future and they were in it. Everything was on the right track until that day.

When I saw him lying in the hospital bed after his brain surgery, I knew he was in pain. The moment when Gelo saw Gian, Gelo asked me if I can accompany him out of the hospital because he could hardly breathe. When I heard him, I felt my heart was crushed and broken into pieces. I could not cry. I had to be strong for my family. The only thing I could do that time was to pray. I begged Him, “If it is really Your will to take my brother back, then take him now. Don’t let him suffer.” Those words were the hardest to say. It was like giving Gian up. I thought, for that moment, it was the best thing to do.

So He did. He heard me.

Then I realized, I could not take back what I asked Him. I couldn’t say thank you to Him for doing me a favor. It was like a snap then everything changed. I lost my brother! How about our dreams, our future? He could be the next Lionel Messi or Cesc Fabregas or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, after almost 4 years, I’ve come to realize and accept everything. God really has a purpose. God taught me how to love someone more than my self. When my brother died, I distanced myself from people who I thought I could love more than myself. You see, it’s hard to get so attached because it’s also hard to let go. But I thank Him for that. Now, I’m beginning to bring back the old me - my previous self who knows how to love and enjoys being loved. I’m ready to take risks.

A friend once told me that I’m so lucky because I spent five years with him. Gian’s death somehow left a scar on our hearts and made big impact on our lives but his 5 years was enough for us to experience and to feel the love of God. If I could turn back time, my decision will still be the same but I will do three things: hug him, kiss him and tell him how much I love him.

Gian is always with me. It may not be physically though but he owns a special place in my heart. And that place will be his forever.

Exploring Mabinay (Day 3) - Spring

Mabinay Spring - our next stop.

We were traveling by motorcycle when I suddenly wanted to stop in the middle of nowhere and take pictures. Not actually a middle of nowhere, it was just a part of Mabinay. Haha! But I liked the concept of that middle of nowhere stuff. So we decided to stop for a while. It was a great view!

The mountain’s so clear. This next photo is my dream photo. I love photos with mountains on the background. It was somehow embarrassing because people who passed by turned their heads to look at us.

After this stupid concept, we continued our journey. 10 minutes later, we reached Mabinay Spring. A lot of people were swimming there.

Jelly and I were scared at first. We didn’t know what to do. I was so stiff. I thought a single wrong move could turn us upside down. I listened very carefully to the lifeguard’s instructions.

But after a while, Jelly and I became comfortable.

Fralley was so cool. She did not even wear life jacket. You already, Fral!

After kayaking, we dipped in the spring. We were scared, really scared. Jelly hesitated to jump but I pushed her (haha! Evil me!). Then I immediately followed. Fralley never used the life jacket while Jelly and me depended on it.

I had one of the best times of my life. Why? Because my friends were with me. We ate together, we sang and danced together, we laughed together and we enjoyed together. I’m 99.9% sure that this is not our last travel and adventure together. I’m looking forward for more exciting moments with these girls. So guys….. what is our next destination? Boracay? Weh? Hahahah

Exploring Mabinay (Day 3) - Caves

Five hours of sleep, I guess, was enough for our whole day adventure. Jelly and I were surprised when Fralley told us that we were going already. WHAT?! We were still in bed and we haven’t took a bath yet! Because of excitement, we jumped out of bed and change our clothes. Eewww! But who cares? Haha!

We left at around 11:30. Out first stop was the Mabinay Caves. We used a motorcycle and it took us 30 minutes to reach our destination. Unfortunately, we only explored the first cave, they call it “CRYSTAL CAVE”. When I saw it, I was amazed how nature works. Here are some photos.

On our way to the Crystal Cave. We hiked approximately 250 meters from the main entrance to the entrance of the Crystal Cave.

Here are some species we found as we entered the cave - a bird, a spider and a frog. Luckily, there was no snake. Or else, we would have freaked out.

These are few photos we took inside the cave. We also learned some lessons. Stalagmites are pillars rising from the cave floor and stalactites are pillars hanging in caves. It will take millions of years for these stalagmites and stalactites to develop. Another thing is that the water from the stalactite is so cold. :)

Oh, come on! Are you thinking what we were thinking when we first saw these?

It took us around an hour or so to tour this place. I hope next time we can go to the other caves and risk our lives (haha! Just kidding!). Even though we just explored one cave, it was still worth it.

Exploring Mabinay (Day 1 and 2)

I love to travel and explore places. I’ve been to many places before (and I’ll write about it later). Today, I just want to share some of my most unforgettable experiences in Mabinay, Negros Oriental.

I’ve been to Bacolod via Mabinay several times. Often, I swear I don’t want to go back. Why? Because the zigzag roads in Mabinay give me that feeling of uneasiness. When I hear people talking about that place, there’s a voice in the back of my mind telling me that I want to hurl. Yuck!

But I never thought that this place would amaze me. A friend of mine, Fralley, invited me and Jelly in their place for the fiesta. At first, I was a little bit hesitant because as I’ve said, I’m a ‘byahilo’ and I’m sure my father won’t allow me. But because of my boredom and love for traveling, I decided to go. It was funny because I asked the permission of Papa exactly 30 minutes before leaving. Fortunately, he said okay.

This was taken inside the bus before leaving Dumaguete City.

It was a 2-hour bus ride and at last we arrived at Banguiren’s residence. This photo was taken at the terrace of Fralley’s house. We were testing Jelly’s new camera. :)

The next day was the feast day. And the food, delicioso! This picture is one of our desserts…Sansrival cake. Yummy!

After enjoying the food, we had some wine and a little chitchat.

We visited Fralley’s aunt in the afternoon and again…eat, eat and eat! It was a long, tiring but fun day. We made some videos, too. We slept around 3 in the morning. Wooh! :)
